Das Finale der internationalen Jugend-Kulturbegegnung 2008-2010

Die auf insgesamt drei Jahre angelegte Untersuchung des „Fatzer“ dreht sich im Jahr der Kulturhauptstadt RUHR.2010 um das Thema „Revolution“: Welche Vorstellungen haben Jugendliche heute von der Möglichkeit einer plötzlichen und grundlegenden gesellschaftlichen Veränderung? Wie erleben sie politisches Handeln in ihrem Land, aber auch im internationalen Kontext? Ist Diplomatie gleichbedeutend mit dem zähen Pragmatismus, der ihr immer wieder vorgeworfen wird? Oder zeichnet sich Demokratie gerade dadurch aus, dass auch kleine Reformen mühsam errungen werden müssen?

Trotz Blutvergießens und verheerender Gewalt, die vielfach mit großen historischen Wendungen verbunden sind, ist der Begriff „Revolution“ in unserem Wertesystem durchaus positiv besetzt. Ob politische, kulturelle, naturwissenschaftliche oder technische Revolutionen, von den Protagonisten einschneidender Veränderungen geht eine große Strahlkraft aus. Revolutionäre sind Publikumsmagneten. Sie sind die kühn Voranstürmenden, die alles riskierenden Kämpfer für eine bessere Welt, die die alte verkrustete Ordnung wegzufegen imstande sind. Allem historischen Leid und Elend zum Trotz bleibt die Faszination der Revolution als einer aktiv und konkret geschaffenen Utopie.

Dieses Motiv durchzieht auch Bertolt Brechts „Fatzer“. Für die vier Deserteure ist die Revolution eine vage Hoffnung auf eine bessere Zukunft. Sie scheint notwendig, aber - wenn überhaupt - woanders stattzufinden. Fatzer und seine Freunde müssen sich um das eigene Überleben kümmern und beteiligten sich nicht aktiv an aufständischen Aktionen. Damit verkörpern sie ein heutiges Lebensgefühl: Wir spüren, dass „etwas getan werden muss“ – und machen weiter wie bisher. „traces of:FATZER_vol.3“ untersucht das politische Handeln junger Menschen und deren Entwurf einer gerechteren Welt.

Die Abschlussveranstaltung von „traces of:FATZER_vol.3“ findet im nächsten Jahr am 31.07.2010 im Ringlokschuppen statt, im Rahmen von „Varieté de la Vie“, der großen gemeinsamen Präsentation der TWINS2010-Projekte aus den Städten Bottrop, Essen, Dinslaken, Duisburg und Mülheim.

Alle Jugendlichen, die zwischen 16 und 26 Jahre alt sind und Lust haben, internationale Kontakte zu knüpfen, sind herzlich eingeladen, mitzumachen!

traces of:FATZER_vol.3

During the summer holidays of 2008 and 2009, 40 young people from Mülheim and five of its twin towns met to work on the topics “Society and Solidarity” and “Man of the Masses” respectively within the framework of the TWINS 2010 Project “traces of: FATZER”. Together with artists from the acting, dance, music and video sectors, the theatre director Martin Kreidt developed a workshop program based on the fragments of the play “The Downfall of the Egoist Johann Fatzer” by Bertolt Brecht. At the end of the workshops there were two big public presentations in the Ringlokschuppen in Mülheim an der Ruhr on 2nd August 2008 and on 8th August 2009.

The work on “Fatzer”, which has been designed to run for a total of three years, will deal in this the capital of culture RUHR.2010 year with topic “revolution”: what ideas do young people nowadays have about the possibility of a sudden and fundamental change in society? How do they experience political actions not only in their own countries, but also at an international level? Is diplomacy synonymous with the tough pragmatism it is continuously being accused of? Or does democracy excel because even small reforms have to be arduously fought for?

Despite the spilling of blood and devastating violence which are frequently associated with great historical changes, the term “revolution” is quite positively perceived in our system of values. Whether it be political, cultural, scientific or technical revolutions, a great charisma is emitted from the protagonists of major changes. Revolutionists are crowd pullers. They are bold people who drive things forward, they are fighters willing to risk everything in order to achieve a better world, and they are capable of sweeping away the old ossified systems of order. Despite all the historical suffering and misery, the fascination of revolution remains an active, specifically created utopia.

This theme is also a central one in Bertolt Brecht‘s “Fatzer”. For the four deserters the revolution is a vague hope for a better future. It would appear necessary but – if it happens at all – it will take place elsewhere. Fatzer and his friends had to worry about their own survival and did not actively participate in rebellious campaigns. Therefore they personified a present-day attitude towards life: We feel that “something has to be done” – and then we carry on as usual. “traces of:FATZER_vol.3” examines the political actions of young people and their concept of a more just world.

The finale of “traces of:FATZER_vol.3” will take place in the Ringlokschuppen on 31st July 2010, within the framework of “Varieté de la Vie”, the major joint presentation of TWINS2010-Projects from the cities of Bottrop, Essen, Dinslaken, Duisburg, Oberhausen and Mülheim.
